Racism

We're All The Same

Life is a journey. We work to understand our strengths and improve on our weaknesses. Fight the injustices in our lives and become better human beings.  Regardless of the color of our skin or the language we speak, we all work to overcome the same obstacles. However there is one constant issue that continues to linger in our society. Racism.

Growing up in a world where you are singled out because of the color of your skin, fills you with an incomprehensible feeling of sadness. The stares from strangers, because you look a little different, leave you feeling on edge. You feel as though you have been put on trial for the simple reason that you exist. You hear stories from friends and family of experiences they’ve had and pray that you won’t have to add a personal story to the list. Deep down you know, you’ve already had a very encounters, but suppress them in your memory as simple misunderstandings. These feelings of sadness and isolation are causes of deep pain and sometimes anger.

Moving into the future, how do we eliminate this poison from our society and move away from the notion of you verses I? Fifty years have passed since Martin Luther King delivered his infamous I have a dream speech where he hoped for a future where people would be judged by the content of their character instead of the color of their skin. It would appear that we are still fighting the same fight.

It’s time for change….food for thought!
